Durga Ashtami or Maha Ashtami is an important Hindu ritual Dedicated to Goddess Shakti after 8 Days of fasting.

Some peoples also known this day as 'Astra Puja' so as on this day the weapons of goddess Durga are worshiped.

How to celebrate Durga Ashtami

Chaitra Navaratri has special significance. As everyone knows that nine days of Navratri worship in nine forms of Mother Durga. Mother Gauri is worshiped on Navratri Ashtami. The worship of Mother Gauri is of particular importance. Pooja and Virya are worshiped on this occasion.The Eight day of Navratri is called Ashtami,and Hindus consider the day to be the most important day of all the nine days of  Navratri.

Ashtami is worshiped by the girl

This is the reason that the mother Mahagauri Annapurna is a form of nature, it is considered to be very good for worshiping Anakoot worship of the eighth day i.e. to worship a girl. On this day people are offered a banquet to girls and Brahmins. On this day people are offered a banquet to take advantage of Mahagauri of Chola, Pauri, Kher, Halwa etc..

As we all know Ganesha also known as Ganapati,The son of lord 'Shiva' and 'Parvati',The Puranic myths gives different version about his birth,but most popular is he was created by Parvati,as per Puranic myths his mother Goddess Parvati made a idol of a body from his ubtan and breathed life in to it.

Ganesha is son of lord Shiva and Parvati,he has one brother Kartikeya, there is lots of confusion who is elder between these two but if we will go according to skanda then Kartikeya should be elder one.

Ganesha got married with Riddhi and Siddhi,according to Shiva Purana he had two son named Ksema and Labha.

HOW GANESHA GOT ELEPHANT HEAD

When Parvati created Ganesha with his ubtan and breathed it, at that time she was going to take bath so for the protecting of that bath area she create Ganesha.when he was protecting soddenly Shiva came to meet Parvati but Ganesha denied Shiva entry in to that area as per Parvati instructions that no one can enter in side up to next instruction.

With this denied Shiva got anger,in this anger Shiva decapitated Ganesha head.when Parvati came out and watch the seen what was going out side she got very anger, due to Parvati anger all earth got deep dark and many more problem started, so all other GOD request to Brahma and Vishnu to do something,

Than Brahma Ask to Vishnu to do something,Vishnu order his sudarshan chakra to take one head of that who meet him first,sudarshan chakra found elephant first so he took elephant head and came back,than Brahma and Vishnu Request to Shiva to replace that head with Ganesha head.

Worship of Ganesha

Shiva blessed him with a boon that people would first offer their love and devotion to Ganesha before starting any activity,
so you also been noticed at many occasions, especially at the beaning of any new work,buying a vehicle also in the worship of any other GOD people offered first worship to him.

Main mantra of worship is "ॐ गणेशाय नमः","ॐ गणपतये नमः"

What is vehicle of Ganesha 

It is interesting to see that his vehicle (vahana) is mouse also known as the mooshika,which is given by Shiva to him,for teaching lesson to all of us when God does not discriminate between big and small, then who are be to judgmental,all are equal according to GOD.

He likes to eat sweet,he also known for his fondness for food.he specially likes Modaks and Ladoos,so these sweets offered as Prasad or Bhog to the Lord,
